How the Work
is Made

Every technique has its own logic, its own relationship between artist and material. The press is never neutral.

Intaglio Etching process — studio printmaking technique

2–8 hrs

per bite

Intaglio Etching

Acid bites into copper. The longer the plate sits in the mordant, the deeper the line — the darker the mark when ink is pressed into the wound and paper is laid against the plate.

Ferric chloride · copper plate · damp cotton rag

Screenprint process — studio printmaking technique

7 passes

per edition

Screenprint

Emulsion holds the image on stretched silk. A rubber squeegee pulls ink through the open mesh in one smooth motion. Seven passes. Seven layers. Each one registered by hand.

Photo emulsion · silk mesh · water-based inks

Woodcut process — studio printmaking technique

3–5 days

per block

Woodcut

The gouge removes material. The remaining surface carries ink. Cherry grain reads through every print — the wood's own history inscribed in the image.

Cherry wood · gouge set · oil-based relief ink

Monotype process — studio printmaking technique

1/1

always unique

Monotype

Paint on glass. Lay paper. Press. Lift. The image transfers once — unique, unrepeatable. The ghost left on the plate becomes its own work.

Glass plate · oil paint · Somerset Velvet
